Michigan women's basketball got off to a rough start in their regular season opener, losing to #21 ranked Temple in the first round of a tournament at the U of Oregon. The final score of 65-48 indicates good defense but not so good offense for the Wolverines.

Tomorrow they will play the loser of Oregon vs. St. Francis of Pennsylvania.

Jessica Minnfield scored 15 points to lead Michigan, but no other Wolverine made it to double figures.

Katie Dierdorf got nine minutes of playing time and scored five points, so hopefully this means she has recovered from the injuries that cut her rookie season short.

Michigan outrebounded Temple which is good, but also had more turnovers which is not good.

All eleven of Michigan's players got at least some minutes and all but three scored at least some points.

All in all it was probably what one would expect from a season opener matching a relatively young team coming off a difficult season (Michigan) with a nationally ranked team coming off a successful season (Temple).

I remain confident that Michigan will end up having a good season, and a great place to start would be with a win tomorrow. This team will come together soon, and then the wins will come. Despite the final score being somewhat lopsided, Michigan came back strong from a bad first half and did get as close as eight points in the second half.

On to the next game, and Let's Go Wolverine Women!!!

Oh, and I guess I shouldn't have put Temple at the top of my Football Bottom Ten...maybe that was just Asking For Trouble with the Michigan Women's B-ball team playing Temple?
