Most television commercials are quite Inane, Insipid, and Jejune...but here are a few that are particularly so for me lately.

It happens every Autumn for the last I-can't-recall-how-many-years in Southeast Michigan where I live. The Radio City Christmas Craptacular comes to Detroit and brings with it an incredibly annoying commercial with a saccahine, cloying jingle that gets stuck in my head and only many hours of listening to Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead will make it go away.

How about those hyper macho Ford Truck ads with the asinine, clownish caricature of a country singer...I think Toby Keith is the name of the asinine clown in question? Watch how he pounds the phallic gear shift lever of his oh so manly Ford Truck...could the Macho Symbolism be any more obvious? Ford Trucks...for insecure little boy-men who have to have a Large Metal Penis Extension to drive around in!

The McCain Processed Potato Products (with the "When you're smiling..." song) ads are an example of Music That I Might Like If It Did Not Get Done To Death by Advertising. See also, Bob Seger's "Like A Rock" that Chevrolet ran into the ground by using it for what seemed like several decades in their truck ads.

Stay tuned for more of this.
