Fear and Loathing in Ann Arbor...
Michigan football laid an egg on Homecoming Day, losing to Minnesota 23-20. It was yet another uninspired performance by a directionless team that seems headed back to the malaise and losing of the Bump Elliot era.
The play calling was predictable and atrocious, the defensive schemes equally inept, quarterback Chad Henne has regressed to the level of Totally Pathetic, and kicker Garrett Rivas choked on two field goals that would have made the difference.
Michigan once again played "not to lose" instead of playing to win and once again, they ended up losing. The conservative play calling leads to missed opportunities and lack of points, and in general the team seems to not be able to take control of a game. They have enough talent to stay close, but the unimaginative coaching and strategy keeps opponents in the game and all too often drags Michigan down to defeat.
Next up is resurgent Penn State. Michigan could get totally killed by the Nittany Lions, on the other hand the pattern seems to be one good game then one bad one, so Michigan is apt to end up playing well next Saturday and beating Penn State.
Who knows anymore with this team, so stay tuned and Expect The Unexpected, I suppose.
At least Central Michigan won!
